Hiking trip in Peru to Machu Picchu

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

I was planning on going on a hiking trip in Peru to Machu Picchu in October, but I can’t go due to work. Such is startup life…

The trip combines hiking along a secluded Inca trail with overnight stays at traditional mountain lodges. It’s been sold out for weeks but I have two spots. Send me an email if you’re interested.

3G for MacBook Air

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

I recently bought the Novatel Wireless Ovation MC950D HSDPA USB modem for use with my MacBook Air. It’s been working great so far. Hopefully one day the name Air will be more than just Reality Distortion and Apple will offer integrated 3G.

Nikon lenses for sale

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

I am selling two Nikon lenses. Both lenses are brand new and have only been used on one trip. I’m selling them because I decided to switch to the Sony A700. I went through three Nikon D80s with severe hot pixel issues (at ISO100). Got fed up and instead of waiting for the D300 went with the Sony A700.

  • Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D-AF lens w/Hoya 52mm HMC UV filter: $125
  • Nikon 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 G-AFS ED-IF DX lens w/Hoya 67mm HMC UV filter: $320

If you buy both lenses, I’ll throw in a free SanDisk 2GB Extreme III SD Memory Card.

Update: the lenses have been sold.

Norwegians at the duty free

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Letting Norwegians loose in the duty free store is like letting kids loose in Disneyland…

Tax free

A 1l bottle of Martini Bianco is 150 NOK (25 USD) at the monopoly store in Norway. At the airport it’s 50 NOK (8.5 USD).

Tumi Sucks

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

On a recent trip to San Francisco I bought a Tumi Vista Super Light 20″ Wheeled Carry-On. On the way back to Oslo, having completed the SF-London leg, this happened:

It weighed 10 kgs (they weigh all carry-ons at Stansted) and I mostly used the wheels.

I had heard good things about Tumi and their reputation for quality. I was hoping that this carry-on would be robust enough to last me a while, but I guess I have to start looking again. What would you recommend?

Anyway, I should have known better than to buy a product called Vista :)

Update: A Tumi representative got in touch and will be sending me a new carry-on. It’s a different model, so I’ll be posting a review soon :) Thanks Tumi!
